KVβ.1 Activators

KVβ.1, also known as Kvβ1 or Voltage-Gated Potassium Channel Beta-1 subunit, is a protein subunit that plays a crucial role in the function of voltage-gated potassium channels (Kv channels). Kv channels are essential membrane proteins found in a variety of cells, including neurons, muscle cells, and cardiac cells. They are responsible for regulating the flow of potassium ions across the cell membrane, which is critical for controlling the cell's electrical excitability and maintaining proper membrane potential. Kvβ.1 is a regulatory subunit that associates with the pore-forming alpha subunits of certain Kv channels. Its primary function is to modulate the activity and trafficking of these channels. Kvβ.1 contains a beta-sheet-rich immunoglobulin-like domain that interacts with the alpha subunit of Kv channels.

One of the key roles of Kvβ.1 is to facilitate the assembly and surface expression of functional Kv channels. It acts as an auxiliary subunit that can enhance the stability of the channel complex and influence its kinetic properties, including channel activation and inactivation.
