QUICK LINKS

Minoxidil (U-10858) is a selective ATP dependent K+ channel (Kir6) activator. As a result membrane permeability increases the flow of K+ across the membrane, which turns off voltage gated calcium channels. This inhibition in action potential causes a relaxation in arteriolar smooth muscle. Alternate studies indicate that Minoxidil (U-10858) activates the beta-catenin pathway in human dermal papilla cells which results in accumulation of beta-catenin in the nucleus.
