**GPL-3 activators** are a class of compounds that enhance the expression or activity of the Guanylate-binding protein 3 (GPL-3) protein. GPL-3 is a large GTPase protein that plays a crucial role in various cellular processes, including cell migration, cell adhesion, and cell signaling. GPL-3 activators can increase the levels of GPL-3 protein, promote its interaction with other proteins, or enhance its activity in cellular processes. GPL-3 activators exert their effect by modulating different aspects of GPL-3 biology. Some GPL-3 activators, such as interferons (IFN-α, IFN-β, and IFN-γ), tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-α), interleukin-1 beta (IL-1β), and lipopolysaccharide (LPS), activate specific signaling pathways leading to increased GPL-3 expression. Other GPL-3 activators, such as polyinosinic-polycytidylic acid (Poly I:C), activate innate immune responses, which can also lead to increased GPL-3 expression.
In addition to these signaling pathways, some GPL-3 activators, such as 5,6-dichloro-1-β-D-ribofuranosylbenzimidazole (DRB), actinomycin D, and cycloheximide, are inhibitors of RNA polymerase or protein synthesis. These compounds can induce a cellular stress response, which can lead to increased GPL-3 expression. Other GPL-3 activators, such as sodium salicylate and quercetin, activate specific cellular signaling pathways that can also lead to increased GPL-3 expression. By modulating GPL-3 expression or activity, GPL-3 activators can influence various aspects of cell migration, cell adhesion, and cell signaling. These compounds have been instrumental in dissecting the molecular mechanisms underlying GPL-3 function and its involvement in various cellular processes.
