CASC3 Activators

CASC3, also known as Cancer Susceptibility Candidate 3, is a protein-coding gene in humans. The protein it encodes is a component of the exon junction complex (EJC), a multi-protein complex that plays crucial roles in various steps of mRNA metabolism.The exon junction complex is deposited on mRNAs during the splicing process, a critical step in gene expression where non-coding introns are removed and coding exons are joined together. The EJC is involved in several post-splicing activities, including mRNA export from the nucleus to the cytoplasm, mRNA surveillance, and nonsense-mediated mRNA decay (NMD), a mechanism that degrades mRNAs containing premature stop codons to prevent the production of faulty proteins.

CASC3 protein, as part of the EJC, plays a role in these processes. Specifically, it's considered a peripheral component of the EJC, involved in the stable assembly and disassembly of the complex.Given the vital role of the EJC in gene expression, it's not surprising that alterations in CASC3 have been associated with disease. For instance, mutations in CASC3 have been linked to certain types of cancer, hence the "Cancer Susceptibility Candidate" in its name.
