β-defensin 113 Activators

Chemical activators of β-defensin 113 include a variety of compounds that can trigger the activation of this antimicrobial protein through different mechanisms related to the innate immune response. Benzalkonium Chloride, for example, can activate β-defensin 113 by disrupting microbial membranes, leading to an increased local immune response encompassing the activation of antimicrobial peptides. Similarly, Chlorhexidine can activate β-defensin 113 by binding to microbial cell walls and compromising membrane integrity, which in turn may trigger the immune system to activate β-defensin 113 as a defensive measure. Sodium Hypochlorite and Hydrogen Peroxide both activate β-defensin 113 through oxidative stress responses, with Sodium Hypochlorite acting as a disinfectant and Hydrogen Peroxide functioning as an endogenous signaling molecule that prompts cellular defense mechanisms, including the activation of antimicrobial peptides.

Moreover, Ethanol and Isopropanol can activate β-defensin 113 by perturbing cell membranes, leading to an immune response that may involve the upregulation of host defense peptides. Thimerosal, through its antiseptic properties, can activate β-defensin 113 by inducing a localized immune response that in turn activates antimicrobial peptides. Citric Acid has the ability to chelate metal ions and disrupt bacterial growth, thereby promoting an immune response that activates β-defensin 113. Povidone-Iodine serves as an antiseptic agent that can activate β-defensin 113 by inducing a localized immune response as part of the innate defense. Silver Nitrate, recognized for its antimicrobial properties, can also activate β-defensin 113 by prompting a local immune response. Triclosan and Benzethonium Chloride are further examples where β-defensin 113 activation is a result of their respective roles in disrupting lipid synthesis in bacteria and serving as surfactants and antimicrobial agents, inducing immune responses that include the activation of β-defensin 113.
