ARMC3 Activators

ARMC3, or Armadillo Repeat Containing 3, is a protein encoded by the ARMC3 gene in humans. It is characterized by the presence of armadillo/beta-catenin-like repeats, a protein motif known to mediate protein-protein interactions.ARMC3 is part of the dynein complex and is specifically located in the axoneme, a structure found in cilia and flagella. Cilia are cellular projections that function in cell movement and signaling. They are crucial for numerous physiological processes, including sensory perception, embryonic development, and tissue homeostasis.

ARMC3 is predominantly expressed in tissues with high ciliary activity, such as the testis and respiratory system, suggesting its crucial role in ciliary function. Within the dynein complex, ARMC3 is believed to be involved in dynein arm assembly, which is critical for ciliary motility.Mutations in the ARMC3 gene have been associated with primary ciliary dyskinesia (PCD), a rare genetic disorder characterized by impaired ciliary movement.PCD often present with recurrent respiratory infections, infertility, and other features related to defective ciliary function. Despite these insights, the exact role and regulatory mechanisms of ARMC3 in ciliary function and dynein assembly still require further clarification.
