QUICK LINKS

Insulin is a peptide hormone that plays a crucial role in metabolism, primarily by facilitating the uptake of glucose into cells. In scientific research, insulin is extensively studied for its mechanisms of action on cellular glucose uptake and its broader metabolic effects. Specifically, insulin binds to insulin receptors on the cell surface, triggering a cascade of intracellular signaling events. This signaling pathway involves the activation of the insulin receptor substrate (IRS) and phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase (PI3K), leading to the translocation of glucose transporter type 4 (GLUT4) vesicles to the cell membrane, thereby promoting glucose uptake. Beyond its classical metabolic roles, insulin also influences cell growth and differentiation, an area of active research. The hormone has been shown to activate multiple signaling pathways, including the Ras-mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) pathway, which influences gene expression and cell cycle progression. This dual role of insulin in both metabolism and cell regulation provides a valuable model for studying the integration of metabolic and mitogenic signals.

Is sc-29062, Insulin soluble in PBS? or water?

Asked by: Jz28sail
Thank you for your question. Getting recombinant insulin into solution isn't easy, and requires titration with HCl. It is recommended to reconstitute the lyophilized Insulin in sterile 0.005N HCl not more than 1 mg/ml. Our Human Insulin solution (sc-360248) works very well and has been recommended by the Chemicals Department as an alternative due to the difficulty of getting recombinant insulin into solution. If you have any further questions or concerns, please feel free to contact our Technical Service department by calling 800-457-3801 option 2, emailing scbt@scbt.com, or using the Live Chat function on our website.
