Zygin 2 Antibody (F-10) is a mouse monoclonal IgG1 antibody that detects zygin 2 in mouse, rat, and human samples through applications such as western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), immunofluorescence (IF), and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Zygin 2, also known as FEZ2 (fasciculation and elongation protein zeta 2), is a 353 amino acid cytoplasmic protein that plays a crucial role in the outgrowth and fasciculation of axons, which is essential for proper neuronal connectivity and function. This protein exists as a disulfide-linked homodimer and can also form heterodimers with zygin 1, highlighting potential interactions within the zygin family. Zygin 2 is expressed in various non-neural tissues, including the heart, lung, spleen, muscle, testis, placenta, and melanocytes, indicating diverse biological roles beyond the nervous system. The gene encoding zygin 2 is located on human chromosome 2p22.2 and mouse chromosome 17 E3, and has two alternatively spliced isoforms. Notably, zygin 2 has been shown to restore partial locomotion and axonal fasciculation in C. elegans UNC-76 mutants, suggesting a significant functional role in axonal outgrowth and the maintenance of neuronal integrity. The evolutionary conservation of zygin 2 and orthologs across species further underscores importance in developmental biology and neurobiology.
