UCP2 Antibody (G-6) is a mouse monoclonal IgM kappa antibody raised against a peptide mapping at the N-terminus of human mitochondrial uncoupling protein 2 (UCP2) and is reactive with mouse, rat, and human species. UCP2, a member of the solute carrier family 25 (SLC25A8), is an integral mitochondrial inner membrane protein that plays a pivotal role in regulating mitochondrial function and energy metabolism. By acting as a proton carrier, UCP2 uncouples oxidative phosphorylation from ATP synthesis, dissipating the electrochemical gradient across the mitochondrial inner membrane. This uncoupling reduces reactive oxygen species (ROS) production and protects cells from oxidative stress, highlighting UCP2′s importance in cellular defense mechanisms. Unlike UCP1, which is primarily found in brown adipose tissue and is specialized for thermogenesis, UCP2 is widely expressed in various tissues, including white adipose tissue, muscle, and immune cells. UCP2 is implicated in critical physiological processes such as energy balance, glucose metabolism, and regulation of body weight. UCP2′s dysregulation has been associated with metabolic disorders, obesity, type 2 diabetes, and immune response modulation, making UCP2 an essential focus in metabolic and mitochondrial research. Anti-UCP2 antibody (G-6) is validated for applications including western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), immunofluorescence (IF), immunohistochemistry with paraffin-embedded sections (IHCP), and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA), offering researchers a reliable tool for studying this key mitochondrial protein. Anti-UCP2 antibody (G-6) is available in a non-conjugated form, enabling use in a variety of experimental settings to explore UCP2′s roles in health and disease.

Hello, could you please send me the exact sequence of the N-terminal epitope which was used to generate the antibody? The reason is that I would like to try it on cells from the Xenopus frog, and therefore a good sequence conservation is required.

Asked by: Sylvain_M
Thank you for your question . The sequence is proprietary and the homology in xenopus 63%. We only warranty a specie if the homology is 95% or higher .

please i want to know if his kit of ucp2 (Cat. # sc-390189 ) measure mitochondrial ucp2

Asked by: dr asmaa gomaa
Thank you for your question. This is not provided as a kit. This is a mouse monoclonal primary antibody recommended for detection of UCP2 of mouse, rat and human origin by WB, IP, IF, IHC(P) and indirect ELISA. UCP2 is also known as Mitochondrial uncoupling protein 2. A link to the Uniprot protein page about UCP2 is provided below for your reference. https://www.uniprot.org/uniprot/P55851

The blot for WI-38 cells shows 2 bands, 1 band nearly 80 kDa. This band is also labeled as UCP2, is it right? If yes, what ist the explanation for this band? And could it be that only the 80kDa band ist detectabel without the lower band?

Asked by: Rene 42
Thank you for your question. We have observed a higher molecular weight band ~70-80 kDa in both WI-38 and Neuro-2A whole cell lysate, as well as human liver tissue extract using this monoclonal antibody, UCP2 (G-6): sc-390189, in Western blot. UCP2 has been reported in the primary literature as a dimer at this molecular weight. As a reference, please see PMID: 11179956.
