SEE ALSO...

Transferrin Antibody (11D3) is a mouse monoclonal IgG1 antibody that detects transferrin in mouse, rat, and human samples through applications such as western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Anti-transferrin antibody (11D3) is available in a non-conjugated form, specifically designed for transferrin detection. Transferrin plays a crucial role in iron metabolism, serving as the primary iron transport protein in vertebrate serum. Transferrin binds to free iron ions and facilitates their transport to various tissues, including the bone marrow, where iron is utilized for hemoglobin synthesis in erythrocytes. Transferrin consists of two homologous lobes, each containing a high-affinity iron-binding site, which allows for efficient iron sequestration and delivery. Transferrin is predominantly synthesized in the liver, but is also produced in smaller quantities in the testis and brain, where transferrin acts as an important marker for oligodendrocyte differentiation. Transferrin internalization occurs via interaction with the transferrin receptor (TfR), also known as CD71, which is critical for cellular iron uptake. Following iron release, transferrin is recycled back into the extracellular space, highlighting transferrin′s role in iron reutilization. Deficiencies or mutations in the transferrin gene can lead to atransferrinemia, a rare genetic disorder characterized by microcytic anemia and excessive iron accumulation, underscoring transferrin′s importance in iron regulation and overall health.
