THP Antibody (B-5) is a mouse monoclonal IgG2a antibody that detects Tamm-Horsfall glycoprotein (THP) in mouse and rat samples through applications such as western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), immunofluorescence (IF), and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). THP is the most abundant protein found in normal urine, synthesized by kidney epithelial cells, and plays a crucial role in maintaining renal water balance, immunosuppression, and preventing urinary stone formation. Notably, THP is anchored to the luminal surface of the renal epithelium via a glycosyl phosphatidylinositol (GPI) anchor and is excreted in urine at a rate of 50-100 mg per day. THP′s ability to inhibit bacterial adhesion is particularly important for preventing urinary tract infections, while THP′s interaction with other urinary glycoproteins, such as uropontin and nephrocalcin, highlights THP′s role in modulating calcium dynamics and stone formation in the kidneys. The gene encoding THP, which is located on human chromosome 16p12.3, is also a candidate gene for nephrolithiasis, underscoring THP′s significance in both health and disease. With diverse functions and critical involvement in urinary system physiology, anti-THP antibody (B-5) is an essential tool for researchers studying renal function and related disorders.
