Tau Antibody (Tau 46) is a mouse monoclonal IgG1 kappa light chain antibody developed to recognize purified native Tau protein of bovine origin, with its epitope mapped to the C-terminus of human Tau. Anti-Tau antibody (Tau 46) detects Tau and MAP-2 (280 kDa) from mouse, rat, and human species in applications such as western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), and immunofluorescence (IF), and is predicted to recognize all six Tau isoforms as well as bovine Tau. Tau, also known as MAPT (microtubule-associated protein tau), or TAU, is a 758 amino acid protein that plays a crucial role in stabilizing microtubules within the neuronal cytoplasm, cytoskeleton, and cell membrane. The structure of Tau includes four microtubule-binding repeats, which are essential for promoting microtubule assembly and maintaining neuronal polarity, thereby supporting the intricate architecture and function of neurons. Tau′s structural flexibility allows adaptation to various cellular conditions, facilitating cytoskeletal plasticity necessary for processes such as axonal transport and synaptic function. Tau exists in multiple alternatively spliced isoforms, contributing to diverse functional roles in neuronal health. Post-translational modifications of Tau, including phosphorylation, polyubiquitination, and glycation, regulate activity and turnover, ensuring proper cytoskeletal dynamics. Dysregulation of Tau structure and function is implicated in several neurodegenerative diseases, including Alzheimer′s disease, pallido-ponto-nigral degeneration (PPND), corticobasal degeneration (CBD), and progressive supranuclear palsy (PSP), highlighting the importance of studying Tau in these contexts. Tau monoclonal antibody (Tau 46) is available in both non-conjugated and various conjugated forms, such as agarose, horseradish peroxidase (HRP), phycoerythrin (PE), fluorescein isothiocyanate (FITC), and multiple Alexa Fluor® conjugates, providing researchers with versatile tools for investigating Tau′s structural and functional roles in health and disease.
