SREBP-2 Antibody (1C6) is a mouse monoclonal IgG1 kappa light chain antibody that detects SREBP-2 protein of mouse, rat, and human origin through western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), and immunofluorescence (IF). SREBP-2 monoclonal antibody (1C6) is offered in both non-conjugated and various conjugated forms, including agarose, horseradish peroxidase, phycoerythrin, fluorescein isothiocyanate, and multiple Alexa Fluor® conjugates. SREBP-2 plays a crucial role in cholesterol homeostasis by regulating the expression of the low-density lipoprotein (LDL) receptor, which is essential for the endocytic uptake of cholesterol-carrying lipoproteins. This regulation is vital for maintaining cellular and plasma cholesterol levels, as the transcription of the LDL receptor gene is controlled by a specific sequence known as sterol regulatory element 1 (SRE-1). When cellular sterol levels are low, SRE-1 is activated, leading to increased transcription of the LDL receptor gene and enhanced uptake of LDL. SREBP-2, along with SREBP-1, is a basic helix-loop-helix-leucine zipper transcription factor that binds to SRE-1, thereby activating the transcription of genes involved in lipid metabolism.
