SP-C Antibody (H-8) is a mouse monoclonal IgG2b kappa light chain antibody that detects SP-C protein of human origin by western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), immunofluorescence (IF), and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). SP-C (H-8) antibody is available in both non-conjugated and various conjugated forms, including agarose, horseradish peroxidase (HRP), phycoerythrin (PE), fluorescein isothiocyanate (FITC), and multiple Alexa Fluor® conjugates. SP-C protein plays a crucial role in the formation and function of pulmonary surfactant, which is essential for reducing surface tension at the air-liquid interface in the alveoli, thereby preventing alveolar collapse during exhalation and facilitating normal respiration. SP-C protein is primarily located in the lamellar bodies of alveolar type II cells, where SP-C protein interacts with lipids to form a stable surfactant layer. Proper functioning of SP-C protein is vital for maintaining lung compliance and effective gas exchange, and SP-C protein deficiency can lead to serious respiratory conditions, such as neonatal respiratory distress syndrome. Additionally, SP-C protein undergoes post-translational modifications, including palmitoylation, which enhances SP-C protein hydrophobicity and promotes SP-C protein integration into surfactant membranes, further underscoring SP-C protein importance in pulmonary health.
