SEE ALSO...

SP-B Antibody (F-2) is a mouse monoclonal IgG2b kappa light chain antibody that detects SP-B protein of mouse, rat, and human origin by western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), immunofluorescence (IF), immunohistochemistry, and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). SP-B Antibody (F-2) is available in both non-conjugated and various conjugated forms, including agarose, horseradish peroxidase (HRP), phycoerythrin (PE), fluorescein isothiocyanate (FITC), and multiple Alexa Fluor® conjugates. SP-B plays a crucial role in pulmonary surfactant function, which is essential for reducing surface tension at the air-liquid interface in the alveoli, thereby preventing alveolar collapse during exhalation and facilitating normal respiration. SP-B is primarily located in the alveolar type II cells and is vital for proper surfactant functioning, as SP-B enhances the stability and spreading of surfactant lipids. Additionally, SP-B interacts with surfactant proteins SP-C and phospholipids, forming a complex that is critical for the biophysical properties of pulmonary surfactant. SP-B′s importance in maintaining lung function underscores SP-B′s relevance in respiratory diseases, where surfactant dysfunction can lead to conditions such as neonatal respiratory distress syndrome and acute respiratory distress syndrome in adults.

Does the antibody contain any stabliizers? Can we freeze the antibody at -20 if we add stabilizers such as BSA?

Asked by: Anonymous
Thank you for your questions. This antibody is supplied as 200 µg in 1 ml PBS with 0.1 % gelatin and <0.1 % sodium azide. Due to the gelatin, it cannot be frozen or it will lose its viability. We recommend keeping the antibody at +4 °C for short- and long-term storage.

I am using SP-B (F-2): sc-133143 monoclonal antibody to stain paraffin embedded tissue. Do you recommend antigen retrieval when using this antibody?

Asked by: cjMara
We recommend performing antigen retrieval with sodium citrate buffer (pH 6) and heat. The full protocol can be found here: https://www.scbt.com/scbt/resources/protocols/immunoperoxidase-staining
