SMUG1 Antibody (A-1) is a mouse monoclonal IgG1 kappa light chain antibody that detects SMUG1 protein of mouse, rat, and human origin by western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), immunofluorescence (IF), and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). anti-SMUG1 antibody (A-1) is available in both non-conjugated and various conjugated forms, including agarose, horseradish peroxidase (HRP), phycoerythrin (PE), fluorescein isothiocyanate (FITC), and multiple Alexa Fluor® conjugates. SMUG1 plays a crucial role in the base excision repair (BER) pathway, which maintains genomic stability by removing incorrect or damaged bases from DNA, such as uracil and 3-methyladenine. This process is vital because accumulation of such lesions can lead to mutations and contribute to various diseases, including cancer. SMUG1 functions as a single-strand selective monofunctional uracil DNA glycosylase that efficiently excises uracil from both double- and single-stranded DNA within nucleosomes, thereby preventing potential replication errors. The human SMUG1 gene is located on chromosome 12q13.13, and structural and functional conservation across species underscores SMUG1′s importance in DNA repair mechanisms.
