SEE ALSO...

SMS1 Antibody (G-8) is a mouse monoclonal IgG1 kappa light chain antibody that detects SMS1 of mouse, rat, and human origin by western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), immunofluorescence (IF), and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). SMS1 (G-8) antibody is available in both non-conjugated and various conjugated forms, including agarose, horseradish peroxidase (HRP), phycoerythrin (PE), fluorescein isothiocyanate (FITC), and multiple Alexa Fluor® conjugates. SMS1, a member of the sphingomyelin synthase family, plays a crucial role in lipid metabolism by converting phosphatidylcholine and ceramide into sphingomyelin and diacylglycerol, and vice versa, depending on substrate concentrations. This bidirectional activity maintains cellular homeostasis and regulates processes such as cell survival and apoptosis. SMS1 is predominantly located in the Golgi apparatus, which is essential for lipid synthesis and transport, while SMS2 is primarily found at the plasma membrane. SMS1 expression is regulated through four alternatively spliced mRNAs, producing three distinct proteins with varying tissue distributions and functional roles. SMS1 is expressed in several key tissues, including liver, muscle, heart, brain, stomach, and kidney, highlighting SMS1′s importance in various physiological processes. SMS1 inhibition by compounds such as tricyclodecan-9-yl-xanthogenate (D609) has been linked to tumor cell cytotoxicity, underscoring SMS1′s potential implications in cancer biology.
