SmcX Antibody (G-10) is a mouse monoclonal IgG2b kappa light chain antibody that detects SmcX protein of mouse, rat, and human origin by western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), immunofluorescence (IF), and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). SmcX (G-10) antibody is available in both non-conjugated and various conjugated forms, including agarose, horseradish peroxidase (HRP), phycoerythrin (PE), fluorescein isothiocyanate (FITC), and multiple Alexa Fluor® conjugates. SmcX protein, also known as JARID1C (jumonji, AT rich interactive domain 1C), MRXJ, KDM5C, or XE169, is a crucial nuclear protein that plays a significant role in epigenetic regulation. SmcX contains one ARID domain, one JmjC domain, one JmjN domain, and two PHD-type zinc fingers, classifying SmcX within the JARID1 histone demethylase family. SmcX is predominantly expressed in brain and skeletal muscle, where SmcX functions as a histone demethylase, specifically removing methyl groups from lysine residues on Histone H3. This activity is vital for maintaining the histone code, which influences transcriptional regulation and chromatin remodeling, thereby impacting gene expression. Additionally, SmcX interacts with iron and α-ketoglutarate as cofactors and can recruit histone deacetylases to neuron silencer elements, effectively repressing transcription of neuronal genes. Defects in the gene encoding SmcX are linked to X-linked mental retardation (XLMR), a condition characterized by cognitive impairment and low IQ, highlighting SmcX′s critical role in neurodevelopment. Multiple isoforms of SmcX arise from alternative splicing events, adding complexity to SmcX′s functional repertoire.
