    SEE ALSO...

Shigatoxin Antibody (STX-1) is a mouse monoclonal IgG1 kappa light chain antibody that detects the Shigatoxin protein by western blotting (WB). Anti-Shigatoxin antibody (STX-1) is available in both non-conjugated and various conjugated forms, including agarose, horseradish peroxidase (HRP), phycoerythrin (PE), fluorescein isothiocyanate (FITC), and multiple Alexa Fluor® conjugates, providing versatility for different experimental needs. Shigatoxin 1 (Stx1), the target of Shigatoxin monoclonal antibody (STX-1), is a critical virulence factor produced by Shigella dysenteriae type 1 and enterohemorrhagic Escherichia coli, and plays a significant role in the pathogenesis of hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS), which is the leading cause of acute renal failure in children globally. Stx1′s function is particularly important as Stx1 disrupts protein synthesis in glomerular epithelial cells by increasing arachidonate release and eicosanoid production, leading to a cascade of inflammatory responses. Stx1 also enhances the release of pro-inflammatory cytokines from renal epithelial cells, contributing to the clinical manifestations of HUS, such as microangiopathic hemolytic anemia and low platelet counts. Furthermore, Stx1′s interaction with globotriaosylceramide is linked to brain injury in HUS, highlighting Stx1′s critical role in both renal and neurological complications. Understanding the mechanisms of Stx1′s action is essential for developing therapeutic strategies to mitigate these effects and improve patient outcomes.
