SHBG Antibody (C-2) is a mouse monoclonal IgG2a kappa light chain antibody that detects SHBG protein of human origin by western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), immunofluorescence (IF), and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). SHBG (C-2) antibody is available in both non-conjugated and various conjugated forms, including agarose, horseradish peroxidase (HRP), phycoerythrin (PE), fluorescein isothiocyanate (FITC), and multiple Alexa Fluor® conjugates. The sex hormone-binding globulin (SHBG) precursor is a secreted homodimer that plays a crucial role in binding steroid hormones, specifically 7-β-estradiol and 5-α-dihydrotestosterone, as well as testosterone. By regulating plasma concentration of these steroid hormones, SHBG is essential for controlling metabolic clearance rates, thereby influencing various physiological processes. SHBG is synthesized in the liver and testis, with isoforms 1 and 2 being detected in these tissues. In the testis, SHBG is produced by Sertoli cells, secreted into seminiferous tubules, and subsequently transported to the epididymis, where SHBG is vital for proper transport and availability of androgens during spermatogenesis.
