    SEE ALSO...

REP-2 Antibody (E-4) is a mouse monoclonal IgG2a kappa light chain antibody that detects REP-2 protein of mouse, rat, and human origin by western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), immunofluorescence (IF), and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). REP-2 (E-4) antibody is available in both non-conjugated and various conjugated forms, including agarose, horseradish peroxidase (HRP), phycoerythrin (PE), fluorescein isothiocyanate (FITC), and multiple Alexa Fluor® conjugates. REP-2 protein plays a crucial role in the prenylation process of Rab proteins, which is essential for their proper localization and function within the cell. Specifically, newly synthesized Rab proteins are bound to Rab escort proteins (REP) and presented to Rab geranylgeranyltransferase (GGTase) type II, which facilitates the addition of geranylgeranyl groups to the carboxy-terminal cysteine residues of Rab proteins. This modification is vital as Rab proteins can associate with specific membranes, thereby regulating intracellular trafficking and signaling pathways. Notably, REP-2 can bind to several Rab proteins with an affinity comparable to REP-1, potentially serving as a compensatory mechanism to mitigate tissue abnormalities in conditions such as choroideraemia, where mutations in the REP-1 gene lead to severe retinal degeneration. REP-2′s ability to functionally substitute for REP-1 underscores its importance in maintaining cellular homeostasis and preventing disease onset.
