REP-1 Antibody (2F1) is a mouse monoclonal IgG1 kappa light chain antibody that detects REP-1 protein of human origin by western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), immunofluorescence (IF), and immunohistochemistry. Anti-REP-1 antibody (2F1) is available in both non-conjugated and various conjugated forms, including agarose, horseradish peroxidase (HRP), phycoerythrin (PE), fluorescein isothiocyanate (FITC), and multiple Alexa Fluor® conjugates. REP-1 plays a crucial role in the prenylation of Rab proteins, which is essential for their proper localization and function within the cell. Specifically, newly synthesized Rab proteins are bound to Rab escort proteins (REP), which present them to Rab geranylgeranyltransferase (GGTase) type II for modification on two carboxy terminal cysteine residues. This prenylation allows Rab proteins to associate with specific membranes, facilitating their involvement in intracellular trafficking and signaling pathways. The REP-1 gene, located on chromosome Xq21, is associated with choroideraemia, a hereditary eye disease that leads to progressive vision loss due to mutations that disrupt REP-1 function. Understanding REP-1′s role in Rab protein prenylation highlights its importance in cellular processes and potential as a target for therapeutic interventions in diseases linked to dysfunction.
