PrP Antibody (5B2) is a mouse monoclonal IgG1 kappa light chain antibody that detects the prion protein (PrP ) of mammalian origin by western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), immunofluorescence (IF), immunohistochemistry with paraffin-embedded sections (IHCP), flow cytometry (FCM), and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). PrP (5B2) antibody is available in both non-conjugated and various conjugated forms, including agarose, horseradish peroxidase (HRP), phycoerythrin (PE), fluorescein isothiocyanate (FITC), and multiple Alexa Fluor® conjugates. PrP plays a crucial role in neuroprotection and cellular signaling, and misfolding of PrP is central to the pathogenesis of prion diseases, which are fatal neurodegenerative disorders. The normal cellular form of PrP (PrPc) is predominantly located in the brain, where PrPc is involved in synaptic function and neuroprotection. However, when PrPc misfolds into the disease-associated form (PrPSc), PrPSc becomes resistant to proteolytic degradation, leading to the accumulation of toxic aggregates that disrupt cellular function and ultimately result in neurodegeneration. Anti-PrP antibody (5B2) differentiates between these two forms of PrP, making this antibody essential for understanding the mechanisms of prion diseases such as scrapie, bovine spongiform encephalopathy, and Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease, and valuable for both research and diagnostic applications.
