Prohibitin 2 Antibody (A-2) is a mouse monoclonal IgG1 kappa light chain antibody that detects Prohibitin 2 of mouse, rat, and human origin by western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), immunofluorescence (IF), immunohistochemistry with paraffin-embedded sections (IHCP), and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Anti-Prohibitin 2 antibody (A-2) is available in both non-conjugated and various conjugated forms, including agarose, horseradish peroxidase (HRP), phycoerythrin (PE), fluorescein isothiocyanate (FITC), and multiple Alexa Fluor® conjugates. Prohibitin 2 is an evolutionarily conserved protein that plays a crucial role in regulating the cell cycle, particularly by inhibiting the G1 to S phase transition, which is vital for maintaining proper cellular proliferation and preventing uncontrolled growth. Prohibitin 2 is predominantly localized in the inner mitochondrial membrane, where Prohibitin 2 not only contributes to mitochondrial function but also acts as a tumor suppressor by interacting with retinoblastoma (Rb) protein and inhibiting E2F family members, thereby regulating gene expression in response to various signaling pathways. Prohibitin 2 is involved in B cell maturation at the plasma membrane, highlighting Prohibitin 2′s importance in immune responses. The gene encoding human Prohibitin 2 maps to chromosome 17q21 and is expressed ubiquitously, with Prohibitin 2 mRNA and protein levels fluctuating throughout the cell cycle, suggesting a complex regulatory mechanism that includes both transcriptional and post-translational modifications. Mutations in Prohibitin 2 have been linked to breast cancer development and progression in over 80% of analyzed cell lines, underscoring Prohibitin 2′s significance in cancer biology and potential as a therapeutic target.
