PISD Antibody (B-3) is a mouse monoclonal IgG2a antibody that detects phosphatidylserine decarboxylase (PISD) in mouse, rat, and human samples through applications such as western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), immunofluorescence (IF), and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). PISD plays a crucial role in lipid metabolism by catalyzing the conversion of phosphatidylserine to phosphatidylethanolamine, a process essential for maintaining cellular membrane integrity and function. PISD is predominantly located in the inner mitochondrial membrane, where PISD contributes to the synthesis of phosphatidylethanolamine, a key component of mitochondrial membranes vital for proper mitochondrial function and energy production. PISD′s presence in the mitochondria underscores PISD′s importance in cellular respiration and apoptosis, as phosphatidylethanolamine is involved in the formation of membrane structures that facilitate these processes. PISD exists in two isoforms, PISD alpha and PISD beta, which arise from the cleavage of a conserved LGST motif, and PISD can form heterodimers, enhancing functional versatility. Highly expressed in liver and testis, PISD is encoded by a gene located on human chromosome 22q12.2, making PISD a significant target for studies related to metabolic disorders and mitochondrial dysfunction.
