Peripherin Antibody (A-3) is a mouse monoclonal IgG2a kappa light chain antibody that detects Peripherin protein of mouse, rat, and human origin by western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), immunofluorescence (IF), immunohistochemistry with paraffin-embedded sections (IHCP), and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Anti-Peripherin antibody (A-3) is available in both non-conjugated and various conjugated forms, including agarose, horseradish peroxidase (HRP), phycoerythrin (PE), fluorescein isothiocyanate (FITC), and multiple Alexa Fluor® conjugates. Peripherin is a type III intermediate filament protein that plays a crucial role in the structural integrity and function of peripheral and some central nervous system neurons. Expression of Peripherin is regulated by cytokines such as leukemia inhibitory factor (LIF) and interleukin-6 (IL-6), which activate specific transcription factors that bind to the Peripherin gene promoter, leading to increased protein levels. While Peripherin is not essential for neurite formation, Peripherin plays a vital role in establishing a robust intermediate filament network within cells, which is important for maintaining cellular shape and resilience under mechanical stress. Notably, Peripherin stands unique among intermediate filament proteins due to susceptibility to tyrosine phosphorylation, a post-translational modification that can influence function and interactions with other proteins, thereby impacting neuronal health and response to injury.
