Pepsin C Antibody (E-9) is a mouse monoclonal IgG2b kappa light chain antibody that detects Pepsin C protein of mouse, rat, and human origin by western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), immunofluorescence (IF), and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Pepsin C (E-9) antibody is available in both non-conjugated and various conjugated forms, including agarose, horseradish peroxidase (HRP), phycoerythrin (PE), fluorescein isothiocyanate (FITC), and multiple Alexa Fluor® conjugates. Pepsin C plays a crucial role in the digestive system as one of the primary proteolytic enzymes secreted by the gastric mucosa, where Pepsin C is essential for breaking down proteins into smaller peptides, facilitating nutrient absorption. Pepsin C is synthesized as an inactive precursor, pepsinogen, which is activated by the acidic environment of the stomach, specifically at a pH of 1-3, created by hydrochloric acid. This activation process involves the cleavage of a 41 amino acid segment from the N-terminus of pepsinogen, resulting in the active enzyme, pepsin. Notably, pepsin exhibits broad specificity in cleaving peptide bonds, particularly those involving aromatic amino acids, which is vital for effective protein digestion. The unique amino acid composition of Pepsin C, which differs from that of its precursors, enhances enzymatic activity and specificity, making Pepsin C an important target for research in digestive health and related disorders.
