OLIG1 Antibody (G-3) is a mouse monoclonal IgG1 kappa light chain antibody that detects OLIG1 protein of mouse, rat, and human origin by western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), immunofluorescence (IF), and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). OLIG1 (G-3) antibody is available in both non-conjugated and various conjugated forms, including agarose, horseradish peroxidase (HRP), phycoerythrin (PE), fluorescein isothiocyanate (FITC), and multiple Alexa Fluor® conjugates. OLIG1 protein, a member of the basic helix-loop-helix (bHLH) transcription factor family, plays a crucial role in oligodendrogenesis, the process of oligodendrocyte development, which is essential for the formation of myelin sheaths that insulate nerve fibers and facilitate efficient signal transmission in the nervous system. OLIG1, along with OLIG2, is specifically expressed in nervous tissue and is vital for the regulation of genes involved in the differentiation of oligodendrocyte precursor cells. Notably, OLIG1 and OLIG2 interact with the Nkx-2.2 homeodomain protein, which is instrumental in directing ventral neuronal patterning during embryonic development. These interactions help modulate the balance between different neuronal cell types, thereby influencing the overall architecture and functionality of the developing nervous system. OLIG1 and OLIG2 are abundantly expressed in oligodendroglioma, a type of brain tumor, while being nearly absent in astrocytomas, making these proteins potential molecular markers for diagnosing and understanding human glial brain tumors, which represent the most common primary malignancies of the brain.
