SEE ALSO...

neuroserpin Antibody (C-9) is a mouse monoclonal IgG1 kappa light chain antibody that detects neuroserpin of mouse, rat, and human origin by western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), immunofluorescence (IF), and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). anti-neuroserpin antibody (C-9) is available in both non-conjugated and various conjugated forms, including agarose, horseradish peroxidase (HRP), phycoerythrin (PE), fluorescein isothiocyanate (FITC), and multiple Alexa Fluor® conjugates. Neuroserpin is a crucial axonally secreted glycoprotein in the central nervous system (CNS) that belongs to the serpin family of protease inhibitors. Neuroserpin plays a significant role as a serine-protease inhibitor, forming stable complexes with tissue plasminogen activator (tPA), urokinase, and plasmin, while not interacting with thrombin. Neuroserpin expression is localized in key areas of the adult CNS, including the neocortex, hippocampal formation, olfactory bulb, and amygdala, as well as in the developing cerebellum, granule cells, and a subset of Purkinje cells. Neuroserpin interaction with tPA is particularly important, as tPA is associated with neuronal plasticity, which is vital for processes such as synaptic remodeling and long-term potentiation. Excessive tPA expression can lead to neuronal cell death, highlighting the delicate balance maintained by neuroserpin in neuroprotection. Mutations in the gene encoding neuroserpin have been linked to hereditary dementia, underscoring neuroserpin significance in neurodegenerative diseases. Intracerebral administration of neuroserpin following a stroke has been shown to reduce stroke volume and mitigate apoptotic features in the ischemic penumbra, demonstrating neuroserpin potential therapeutic applications in neuroprotection and recovery.
