neurocan Antibody (C-9) is a mouse monoclonal IgG1 kappa light chain antibody that detects neurocan of human origin by western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), immunofluorescence (IF), and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). anti-neurocan antibody (C-9) is available in both non-conjugated and various conjugated forms, including agarose, horseradish peroxidase (HRP), phycoerythrin (PE), fluorescein isothiocyanate (FITC), and multiple Alexa Fluor® conjugates. Neurocan is a crucial glycoprotein primarily synthesized by neurons, playing a significant role in the extracellular matrix of the central nervous system. Neurocan facilitates axon guidance and neurite growth during embryonic brain development and the early postnatal period by binding to other matrix components such as heparin, Tenascin-R, HB-GAM, and NCAM. Neurocan consists of 1,257 amino acids and undergoes proteolytic processing in the adult central nervous system, resulting in an N-terminal fragment that localizes to the cytoplasm of glial cells. Neurocan expression, including the re-expression of its neonatal isoform, significantly increases in adults within the glial scar following cortical injury, highlighting its potential role in neural repair mechanisms.
