NANS Antibody (D-8) is a mouse monoclonal IgG2a antibody that detects NANS in mouse, rat, and human samples through various applications including western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), immunofluorescence (IF), immunohistochemistry with paraffin-embedded sections (IHCP), and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). NANS, or N-acetylneuraminic acid synthase, is a crucial 359 amino acid protein that plays a significant role in the biosynthesis of sialic acids, which are essential for numerous cellular recognition events. NANS is predominantly located in the cytoplasm, where NANS catalyzes the H2O-dependent formation of N-acetylneuraminic acid (Neu5Ac) and 2-keto-3-deoxy-D-glycero-D-galacto-nononic acid (KDN), both vital sialic acids that contribute to cell signaling and interactions. Proper localization of NANS within the cell ensures efficient access to substrates like N-acetylmannosamine 6-phosphate and mannose 6-phosphate, which are necessary for the synthesis of Neu5Ac and KDN, respectively.
