myocilin Antibody (C-1) is a mouse monoclonal IgG1 antibody that detects myocilin in human samples through applications such as western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), immunofluorescence (IF), and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Myocilin is an extracellular protein predominantly expressed in the eye, particularly in the retina, trabecular meshwork, and ciliary body, where myocilin plays a crucial role in maintaining intraocular pressure (IOP) homeostasis. Myocilin forms homomultimers in vivo and interacts with components of the extracellular matrix, notably through its Hep II domain, which binds to fibronectin. Additionally, myocilin associates with myosin regulatory light chain, a key component of the myosin motor protein complex, suggesting myocilin′s involvement in the actomyosin system. This interaction links myocilin to the functional status of the trabecular meshwork, which is essential for regulating IOP. Dysregulation of this system can lead to elevated IOP and the development of glaucoma, a leading cause of blindness worldwide. Myocilin is encoded by the MYOC gene, also known as TIGR, located at the GLC1A locus on chromosome 1q24.3, and is prone to mutations specifically associated with primary open-angle glaucoma (POAG), a progressive disease characterized by the loss of retinal ganglion cells. anti-myocilin antibody (C-1) is an invaluable tool for researchers studying the molecular mechanisms underlying glaucoma and other ocular diseases.
