Myocardin Antibody (E-5) is a mouse monoclonal IgM antibody that detects Myocardin of mouse, rat, and human origin by western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), immunofluorescence (IF), and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Anti-Myocardin antibody (E-5) is available in both non-conjugated and various conjugated forms, including agarose, horseradish peroxidase (HRP), phycoerythrin (PE), fluorescein isothiocyanate (FITC), and multiple Alexa Fluor® conjugates. Myocardin plays a crucial role in regulating smooth muscle and cardiac muscle gene expression by functioning as a co-activator for serum response factor (SRF), a key transcription factor that binds to serum response elements (SRE) in promoters of many genes responsive to growth signals. The interaction between Myocardin and SRF is particularly important in cardiac muscle cells, where Myocardin activates specific cardiac muscle promoters, thereby influencing heart development and function. Myocardin is expressed in vascular smooth muscle cells, where Myocardin is essential for cell differentiation and maintenance of smooth muscle identity. Myocardin is localized in the nucleus, which is critical for Myocardin′s role in gene regulation, and Myocardin is absent in non-muscle tissues such as coronary vasculature and skeletal muscle, highlighting Myocardin′s specificity in muscle-related functions. Myocardin belongs to the SAP (SAF-A/B, Acinus, and PIAS) domain family of nuclear proteins, which may facilitate targeting of proteins to specific chromosomal locations, further underscoring Myocardin′s significance in cellular processes.
