MMP-12 Antibody (A-2) is a mouse monoclonal IgG2b antibody that detects MMP-12 protein of human origin by western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), immunofluorescence (IF), and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Anti-MMP-12 antibody (A-2) is available in both non-conjugated and various conjugated forms, including agarose, horseradish peroxidase (HRP), phycoerythrin (PE), fluorescein isothiocyanate (FITC), and multiple Alexa Fluor® conjugates. The matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) are a crucial family of peptidase enzymes that play a significant role in the degradation of extracellular matrix components, such as collagen, gelatin, fibronectin, laminin, and proteoglycans. MMP-12, also known as macrophage metalloelastase, is primarily produced in alveolar macrophages and is particularly important for its ability to degrade elastin, a key structural protein in connective tissues. This function is vital as MMP-12 contributes to tissue remodeling and repair processes, but excessive MMP-12 activity can lead to pathological conditions, including granulomatous skin diseases and inflammatory disorders, where MMP-12 may facilitate macrophage migration through the epidermal and vascular basement membranes. The transcription of MMP genes, including MMP-12, is differentially activated by various stimuli such as phorbol ester, lipopolysaccharide, or staphylococcal enterotoxin B, and the catalytic activity of MMPs requires the presence of calcium and zinc ions.
