Mel-18 Antibody (H-1) is a mouse monoclonal IgG1 kappa light chain antibody that detects Mel-18 protein of mouse, rat, and human origin by western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), immunofluorescence (IF), immunohistochemistry, and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). anti-Mel-18 antibody (H-1) is available in both non-conjugated and various conjugated forms, including agarose, horseradish peroxidase (HRP), phycoerythrin (PE), fluorescein isothiocyanate (FITC), and multiple Alexa Fluor® conjugates. Mel-18 protein plays a crucial role in gene regulation and is part of the Polycomb group of proteins, which are essential for maintaining the repression of homeotic genes during embryonic development. Specifically, Mel-18 functions as a transcriptional repressor that binds to DNA via a RING-finger motif, allowing interaction with enhancer elements of target genes such as Bcl-2, c-Myc, and Hox. This interaction is vital for controlling cell proliferation and survival, particularly in hematopoietic cells, and highlights Mel-18′s importance as a tumor suppressor. By negatively regulating cell cycle progression and blocking entry into the S phase, Mel-18 helps prevent uncontrolled cell growth, which is a hallmark of cancer. In contrast, Mel-18′s homolog Bmi-1 has been identified as an oncogene, illustrating the delicate balance between these proteins in cellular processes. Mel-18 (H-1) antibody in various formats serves as an invaluable tool for researchers studying the intricate roles of Polycomb group proteins in development and cancer biology.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Bad antibodyThe band around 70 kDa shown in my blot and on this page is NOT Mel-18. I was redirected here when looking for the discontinued antibody (H-115): sc-10744 since that page said H-1 had replaced it. Mel-18 runs below 50 kDa - see santa cruz's other two available Mel18 antibodies (9HL1): sc-130415 and (B-8): sc-390868.
