SEE ALSO...

Lactoferrin Antibody (B97) is a mouse monoclonal IgG1 kappa light chain antibody that detects human lactoferrin by western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), immunofluorescence (IF), immunohistochemistry with paraffin-embedded sections (IHCP), flow cytometry (FCM), and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Anti-lactoferrin antibody (B97) is available in non-conjugated and various conjugated forms, including agarose, horseradish peroxidase (HRP), phycoerythrin (PE), fluorescein isothiocyanate (FITC), and multiple Alexa Fluor® conjugates. Lactoferrin, a member of the transferrin family, plays a crucial role in iron metabolism by binding iron and regulating its availability, which is essential for various biological processes, including immune response and cellular growth. Lactoferrin is predominantly found in milk, tears, and leukocytes, where lactoferrin not only serves as an iron-binding protein but also exhibits antimicrobial properties. Lactoferrin′s ability to degrade the IgA1 protease secreted by Haemophilus influenzae enhances the effectiveness of the human IgA1 antibody in preventing bacterial colonization. Lactoferrin has been shown to inhibit HIV-1 replication by interfering with viral fusion and entry into host cells, highlighting potential therapeutic applications. The gene encoding human lactoferrin is located on chromosome 3p21.31, and lactoferrin expression is regulated in response to various physiological and pathological conditions, making lactoferrin a significant biomarker in immunological studies.

Can anti-human anti-lactoferrin sc-53498 monoclonal antibody be used for goat lactoferrin detection?

Asked by: DrMercaptych
Thank you for your question. We do not know if this antibody would recognize lactoferrin of goat origin. This is a monoclonal antibody raised against full length purified lactoferrin of human origin. The exact epitope recognized by this monoclonal antibody has not been determined. The full length human lactoferrin protein sequence does share ~71% sequence identity with the goat lactoferrin protein sequence. This is not great enough sequence identity for us to guarantee cross-reactivity, but there is certainly a chance that the antibody may cross-react with the goat protein.

Can lactoferrin (B97): sc-53498 monoclonal antibody be used in IF or IHC with mouse tissue or cells? Will there be non-specific staining?

Asked by: Dr Ninau Qelp
Thank you for your inquiry. The use of mouse monoclonal antibodies with mouse samples is very common and typically poses no problem. To eliminate any potential cross-reactivity of an anti-mouse secondary detection reagent, lactoferrin (B97): sc-53498 is available in a variety of direct conjugations, such as HRP, PE, FITC and AlexaFluors.
