IRBP Antibody (A-12) is a mouse monoclonal IgG2a kappa light chain antibody that detects interphotoreceptor retinoid-binding protein (IRBP) of human origin by western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), immunofluorescence (IF), and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). IRBP (A-12) antibody is available in non-conjugated and various conjugated forms, including agarose, horseradish peroxidase (HRP), phycoerythrin (PE), fluorescein isothiocyanate (FITC), and multiple Alexa Fluor® conjugates. Interphotoreceptor retinoid-binding protein (IRBP) plays a crucial role in the visual cycle by facilitating retinoid transport between photoreceptor cells and retinal pigment epithelium, essential for maintaining photoreceptor health and function. IRBP is specifically expressed in retinal photoreceptor cells and pinealocytes of the pineal gland, highlighting IRBP′s importance in vision and circadian rhythm regulation. The gene encoding human IRBP is located on chromosome 10q11.2, with expression regulated by transcription factors and epigenetic modifications, including hypomethylation of cysteine residues in the promoter region. IRBP exists as a glycoprotein with a four-fold repeat architecture, where each repeat consists of approximately 300 amino acids, containing distinct A and B domains. The antigenic properties of IRBP, along with S-antigen and opsin, are implicated in posterior uveitis pathogenesis, characterized by choroid inflammation and subsequent photoreceptor cell death.
