IGF-IRα Antibody (2C8) is a mouse monoclonal IgG1 kappa light chain antibody that detects IGF-IRα in mouse, rat, and human samples through applications such as western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), immunofluorescence (IF), and immunohistochemistry. IGF-IRα monoclonal antibody (2C8) is available in both non-conjugated and various conjugated forms, including agarose, horseradish peroxidase (HRP), phycoerythrin (PE), fluorescein isothiocyanate (FITC), and multiple Alexa Fluor® conjugates. The insulin-like growth factor-I receptor (IGF-IR) plays a crucial role as a receptor tyrosine kinase, influencing vital cellular processes such as growth, survival, and differentiation. Located on the cell membrane, IGF-IRα is essential for mediating the effects of insulin-like growth factor-I (IGF-I), which promotes cell proliferation and inhibits apoptosis, making IGF-IRα a significant player in growth hormone signaling pathways. IGF-IR activation leads to the recruitment of adaptor proteins like Shc, GRB2, and Sos 1, initiating downstream signaling cascades that activate Ras and ERK kinases, ultimately affecting transcription factor activity. Additionally, the insulin receptor substrate (IRS)-1 and -2 proteins interact with active IGF-IR, triggering phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase-dependent signaling pathways that are critical for cellular responses to growth factors. The human IGF-IR gene is located on chromosome 15q26.3 and encodes a precursor protein of 1,376 amino acids, which is cleaved into α and β subunits, highlighting IGF-IR complexity and importance in cellular signaling and cancer biology.
