HIV-2 Nef Antibody (4B5) is a rat monoclonal IgG1 antibody that detects the HIV-2 Nef protein of HIV-2 origin by western blotting (WB) and immunoprecipitation (IP). Anti-HIV-2 Nef antibody (4B5) is available in both non-conjugated and various conjugated forms, including agarose, horseradish peroxidase (HRP), phycoerythrin (PE), fluorescein isothiocyanate (FITC), and multiple Alexa Fluor® conjugates. HIV-2 Nef protein plays a crucial role in the viral life cycle, primarily by modulating the host immune response and enhancing viral replication. HIV-2 Nef achieves this by downregulating the expression of major histocompatibility complex (MHC) class I molecules on the surface of infected cells, which helps the virus evade detection by CD8+ cytotoxic T cells. This immune evasion is particularly important as HIV-2 can persist in the host, contributing to the chronic nature of HIV infection and the progression to acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS). Understanding HIV-2 Nef function is vital for developing therapeutic strategies aimed at targeting HIV-2, especially given that HIV-2 is less transmissible than HIV-1 but poses significant challenges in regions where HIV-2 is endemic, such as West Africa.
