SEE ALSO...

HIV-2 gp39 Antibody (NYRHIV2gp39) is a mouse monoclonal IgG1 antibody that detects HIV-2 gp39 protein of HIV-2 origin by western blotting (WB) and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Anti-HIV-2 gp39 antibody (NYRHIV2gp39) is available as a non-conjugated format. HIV-2 gp39, an envelope glycoprotein specific to HIV-2, plays a crucial role in the virus′s ability to infect host cells by facilitating binding to the CD4 receptor on T cells. This interaction is vital for viral entry and subsequent replication, making HIV-2 gp39 essential for understanding HIV-2 pathogenesis and developing targeted therapies. Originally isolated from patients in West Africa, HIV-2 is the predominant form of HIV in that region and causes acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS). While HIV-1 and HIV-2 share similarities in genomic structure and clinical features, significant differences exist in their amino acid and nucleotide sequences, particularly in envelope glycoproteins, which can influence pathogenicity and transmission dynamics. Understanding unique properties of HIV-2 gp39 is important for advancing research and therapeutic strategies against this less common but clinically relevant form of HIV.
