HIV-1 Protease Antibody (1696) is a mouse monoclonal IgG1 antibody that detects HIV-1 Protease protein of HIV-1 origin by western blotting (WB). Anti-HIV-1 Protease antibody (1696) is available as a non-conjugated format, specifically designed to facilitate the study of this critical enzyme. HIV-1 Protease plays a vital role in the viral life cycle by hydrolyzing viral polyproteins into functional protein products, which are essential for the assembly and maturation of the virus. This enzymatic activity occurs during the budding process of the virion from the host cell, ensuring that the newly formed virus is infectious. HIV-1 Protease exists as a homodimer composed of two identical monomers, each containing 99 amino acids, arranged in a conformation that allows for an axis of symmetry in the active site. The secondary structure of each monomer includes one alpha-helix and two antiparallel beta sheets, which maintain the stability and functionality of the enzyme. Understanding the structure and function of HIV-1 Protease remains essential for developing targeted antiviral therapies, as inhibiting this protease can effectively disrupt viral replication.
