GUF1 Antibody (B-7) is a mouse monoclonal IgG2a kappa light chain antibody that detects GUF1 protein of mouse, rat, and human origin by western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), immunofluorescence (IF), and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). GUF1 (B-7) antibody is available in both non-conjugated and various conjugated forms, including agarose, horseradish peroxidase (HRP), phycoerythrin (PE), fluorescein isothiocyanate (FITC), and multiple Alexa Fluor® conjugates. GUF1, also known as GUF1 GTPase, EF-4 (elongation factor 4 homolog), or mitochondrial translation factor GUF1, is a 669 amino acid protein that belongs to the GTP-binding elongation factor family and the LepA subfamily. GUF1 is primarily located in the inner membrane of mitochondria, where GUF1 plays a crucial role in promoting mitochondrial protein synthesis. GUF1 binds to mitochondrial ribosomes in a GTP-dependent manner and facilitates the one-codon backward translocation of tRNAs on improperly translocated ribosomes, thereby acting as a fidelity factor during the translation process. GUF1′s function ensures the accuracy of protein synthesis within mitochondria, which is vital for maintaining cellular energy production and overall cellular health. GUF1 gene is located on human chromosome 4, a region that encodes nearly 6% of the human genome and contains the largest gene desert of all human chromosomes. Defects in certain genes on chromosome 4 have been linked to various diseases, including Huntington′s disease, Ellis-van Creveld syndrome, methylmalonic acidemia, and polycystic kidney disease.
