SEE ALSO...

GSS Antibody (H-7) is a mouse monoclonal IgG1 kappa light chain antibody that detects GSS protein of mouse, rat, and human origin by western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), immunofluorescence (IF), immunohistochemistry, and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Anti-GSS antibody (H-7) is available in both non-conjugated and various conjugated forms, including agarose, horseradish peroxidase (HRP), phycoerythrin (PE), fluorescein isothiocyanate (FITC), and multiple Alexa Fluor® conjugates. GSS protein, or Glutathione synthetase, is a crucial enzyme composed of 474 amino acids, encoded by a gene located on human chromosome 20q11.2. GSS plays a vital role in glutathione synthesis, a key antioxidant that protects cells from oxidative stress and maintains cellular redox balance. GSS (H-7) antibody targets proteins primarily located in the cytoplasm of hemocytes and nucleated cells, including those in the brain, where GSS functions as a homodimer. This enzyme catalyzes the ATP-dependent conversion of γ-glutamylcysteine and glycine into glutathione, highlighting its importance in cellular defense mechanisms. Dysregulation or deficiency of GSS can lead to serious health issues, such as the inherited autosomal recessive disorder 5-oxoprolinuria, which is characterized by central nervous system damage, hemolytic anemia, and metabolic acidosis due to impaired glutathione synthesis. Additionally, various factors, including partial hepatectomy and exposure to certain chemicals, can upregulate GSS expression, thereby increasing glutathione levels and enhancing cellular protection against oxidative damage.
