Golgin 245, also known as p230, GCP2, GOLG, or golgi autoantigen, is a 2,230 amino acid protein that exists in three isoforms and is primarily localized to the cytoplasm, where golgin 245 plays a crucial role as a member of the golgin family of peripheral membrane proteins associated with the Golgi complex. Golgin 245 features a carboxyl-terminal GRIP domain that facilitates attachment to the trans-Golgi network (TGN) and TGN-derived vesicles, which is essential for maintaining Golgi structure and function. Notably, golgin 245 interacts with MACF1, which cross-links microtubules to the actin cytoskeleton, enabling transport of proteins from the TGN to the cell periphery. This transport mechanism is vital for various cellular processes, including secretion and membrane trafficking. Furthermore, antibodies against golgin 245 have been linked to chronic conditions such as Sjögren′s syndrome and Hepatitis B, highlighting golgin 245′s potential significance in autoimmune and viral diseases.
