SEE ALSO...

GM2/GD2 Synthase Antibody (C-5) is a mouse monoclonal IgG1 kappa light chain antibody that detects GM2/GD2 Synthase protein of mouse, rat, and human origin by western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), immunofluorescence (IF), and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). GM2/GD2 Synthase (C-5) antibody is available in both non-conjugated and various conjugated forms, including agarose, horseradish peroxidase (HRP), phycoerythrin (PE), fluorescein isothiocyanate (FITC), and multiple Alexa Fluor® conjugates. GM2/GD2 synthase protein, encoded by the human gene B4GALNT1, consists of 533 amino acids and plays a crucial role in the biosynthesis of gangliosides, specifically GM2 and GD2, which are sialic acid-containing glyco-sphingolipids involved in important cellular processes such as signal transduction and cell-cell recognition. GM2/GD2 synthase is predominantly expressed in normal brain tissue of vertebrates and features a single hydrophobic segment near its amino-terminus, which is essential for membrane localization and function. GM2/GD2 synthase maintains the balance between simple and complex gangliosides on the cell surface, influencing cellular interactions and signaling pathways. Notably, ganglioside GD2, synthesized by GM2/GD2 synthase, is highly expressed in neuroblastomas and other neuroectoderm-derived tumors, including malignant melanoma and certain gastrointestinal cancers, making GM2/GD2 synthase a valuable marker for neuroblastoma and a potential prognostic indicator for treatment efficacy.
