Glyoxalase I Antibody (D-5) is a mouse monoclonal IgG2b kappa light chain antibody that detects Glyoxalase I (GLO1) protein of mouse, rat, and human origin by western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), immunofluorescence (IF), immunohistochemistry with paraffin-embedded sections (IHCP), and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). GLO1 antibody (D-5) is available in both non-conjugated and various conjugated forms, including agarose, horseradish peroxidase (HRP), phycoerythrin (PE), fluorescein isothiocyanate (FITC), and multiple Alexa Fluor® conjugates. GLO1 plays a crucial role in the detoxification of glucose degradation products, which is vital for cellular health and metabolic balance. This enzyme catalyzes the conversion of methylglyoxal, a toxic byproduct of glycolysis, into less harmful substances, thereby protecting cells from oxidative stress and potential damage. GLO1′s importance is underscored by involvement in various physiological processes, including regulation of cellular responses to stress and potential link to anxiety disorders, as indicated by studies showing altered expression levels in mouse brains. GLO1 has three isoforms generated from two alleles, forming distinct homodimers and a heterodimer, with each subunit binding a zinc ion, which is essential for enzymatic activity. Research has also identified regulatory elements in GLO1 gene′s promoter region, including an insulin response element and a zinc metal response element, highlighting significance in metabolic regulation and cancer biology, particularly in colon carcinoma.
