Glycogen synthase 2 Antibody (G-8) is a mouse monoclonal IgG2b kappa light chain antibody that detects glycogen synthase 2 protein of mouse, rat, and human origin by western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), immunofluorescence (IF), immunohistochemistry, and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Anti-glycogen synthase 2 antibody (G-8) is available in both non-conjugated and various conjugated forms, including agarose, horseradish peroxidase (HRP), phycoerythrin (PE), fluorescein isothiocyanate (FITC), and multiple Alexa Fluor® conjugates. Glycogen synthase 2 plays a crucial role in glycogen biosynthesis, transferring glycosyl residues from UDP-Glucose to the nonreducing end of α-1,4-glucan, which is essential for energy storage in cells. The protein exists in two forms: a liver variant and a muscle variant, each adapted to its specific physiological function. The liver form is vital for maintaining blood glucose levels, responding to nutritional signals, while the muscle form is primarily involved in providing energy during physical activity, regulated by muscle contractions and catecholamines. Notably, the liver glycogen synthase is truncated by 34 amino acids compared to its muscle counterpart, leading to significant differences in their regulatory mechanisms. Deficiencies in the gene encoding liver glycogen synthase can lead to glycogen storage disease type 0 (GSD0), a rare condition characterized by fasting ketotic hypoglycemia, highlighting the importance of this protein in metabolic health.
