GLDC Antibody (A-9) is a mouse monoclonal IgG1 antibody that detects GLDC (glycine dehydrogenase) in mouse, rat, and human samples through applications such as western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), immunofluorescence (IF), and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). GLDC is a crucial component of the glycine cleavage system, which also includes AMT (Protein T), GCSH (Protein H), and DLD (Protein L), and plays a vital role in the degradation of glycine, a key amino acid involved in various metabolic processes. This 1,020 amino acid protein is localized in the mitochondria and belongs to the gcvP family, where GLDC functions by binding glycine and facilitating the transfer of its methylamine group to Protein T. GLDC exists as a homodimer and requires pyridoxal phosphate as a cofactor for enzymatic activity. Proper functioning of GLDC is essential, as mutations in the gene encoding GLDC can lead to nonketotic hyperglycinemia (NKH), a serious autosomal recessive disorder characterized by excessive glycine accumulation in body fluids, resulting in severe neurological symptoms. Anti-GLDC antibody (A-9) is an invaluable tool for researchers studying the glycine cleavage system and its implications in metabolic disorders.
