GGT1/2 Antibody (A-4) is a mouse monoclonal IgG1 kappa light chain antibody that detects GGT1/2 protein of mouse, rat, and human origin by western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), immunofluorescence (IF), immunohistochemistry, and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). GGT1/2 (A-4) antibody is available in both non-conjugated and various conjugated forms, including agarose, horseradish peroxidase (HRP), phycoerythrin (PE), fluorescein isothiocyanate (FITC), and multiple Alexa Fluor® conjugates. GGT1/2, also known as gamma-glutamyltransferase, plays a crucial role in glutathione metabolism, acting as a glutathionase that catalyzes the transfer of glutamyl moiety from glutathione to various amino acids and dipeptide acceptors. This enzymatic activity maintains cellular redox balance and facilitates detoxification of harmful compounds. GGT1/2 predominantly resides on the outer surface of cell membranes, with wide distribution across mammalian tissues, particularly in organs involved in absorption and secretion. Elevated GGT1 levels in bloodstream can serve as an early biomarker for liver damage and hepatocellular carcinoma, making GGT1 an important target for clinical diagnostics. GGT5, a related enzyme, converts leukotriene C4 to leukotriene D4, although GGT5 does not act on synthetic substrates typically used in GGT assays. Heterogeneity observed in GGT within human serum and tissues primarily results from variations in glycosylation rather than differences in gene expression, underscoring the complexity of GGT1/2′s regulation and function.
