GFP Antibody (B-2) is a mouse monoclonal IgG2a kappa light chain antibody, developed against the full-length green fluorescent protein (GFP) from Aequorea victoria, encompassing amino acids 1–238. GFP is a bioluminescent protein originally discovered in the jellyfish Aequorea victoria. GFP emits green fluorescence when exposed to blue to ultraviolet light, a property extensively harnessed in molecular and cellular biology. The GFP gene can be expressed in various organisms, producing a fluorescent product without additional substrates or cofactors, serving as a valuable marker for gene expression and protein localization studies. Mutant forms of GFP, such as enhanced GFP (EGFP), have been engineered to exhibit increased fluorescence intensity and altered excitation maxima, facilitating applications like fluorescence-activated cell sorting and fluorescence microscopy. GFP serves as a fusion protein tag, enabling visualization and tracking of proteins within live cells.
